Mr Naveen Kumar MBBS, D.Orth, DNB Orth, MRCS Ed, FEBPRM (EUROPE), FRCP (Edinburgh), FRCP (London), FRCS (Glasgow) & FRCS (Edinburgh) & Senior FEBPRM (EUROPE) is Consultant in Spinal Cord Injuries at Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries based at Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Oswestry an internationally recognised centre of excellence for managing Musculoskeletal disorders. He is Honorary Consultant at University Hospitals Birmingham.
   He qualified from Mysore University, India in 1998 and followed a surgical career, chiefly in Trauma, Orthopaedics and Spine Surgery. He then completed higher specialist training at Ganga Medical Centre, Coimbatore obtained DNB-Orthopaedic Surgery from National Board of Examinations, India in 2003. Obtained MRCS from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2006.
   He pursued a keen interest in Spinal Cord Injury. He was trained in Spinal Cord Injuries in the UK (Southport, Glasgow and Stoke Mandeville) and USA (VAMC and Metrohealth, Cleveland) between 2004 and 2010.
He received specific training in Spinal Cord Injury at three Specialised Spinal Cord Injuries Centres in the UK between 2004 and 2010;
1) THE QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL SPINAL INJURIES CENTRE based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow(Aug 2006-May 2010)
2) NATIONAL SPINAL INJURIES CENTRE based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (Apr 2010- Apr 2010)
3) NORTHWEST REGIONAL SPINAL INJURIES CENTRE based at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital (Apr 2004- Feb 2005).
   He obtained CCT and Fellowship of the European Board of PRM in 2010. As a Board Certified Fellow he became the first and only Spinal Injuries consultant in UK to be recognised as a senior Trainer by the European Board. He obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (Sep 2016) and London (Jan 2018). He also obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in April 2018, Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in February 2020 and Senior Fellowship of the European Board of PRM in 2021.
Mr Kumar has extensive experience and expertise in assessment and management of patients who have Spinal Cord Injuries at all levels and all complexities.
   He teaches (as a Honorary Senior Lecturer) Keele University medical students and as an Educational Supervisor to a number of Specialty Trainees in Spinal Cord Injuries and Rehabilitation Medicine from the West Midlands Deanery. He also teaches (as a Honorary Senior Lecturer) MCh/Ph D Orthopaedic specialty registrars from Edge Hill University.
   He is recognised as 1st Tier APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) expert, Member of Institute of Expert Witnesses and he is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Expert Witnesses (FFEW) SpecialistInfo Faculty of Expert Witnesses.
   He has published extensively in peer reviewed journals including The Lancet, on many different studies including randomised controlled trials, studies on many measures of and long term outcome of Spinal Cord Injuries. He has also authored chapter on Spinal Cord Injuries. He has delivered lectures and presented numerous papers in national and international scientific meetings. He has been British Association of Spinal Cord Injury Specialists elected representative for UK Spinal Cord Injury Research Network and also national expert reviewer for Warwick Medical University Research Projects.
   He has been in the executive committee member of the national (British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine) and international (European Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation & International Spinal Cord Society) scientific societies. He has been Chair of Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Special Interest Group, British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine.
   Mr Kumar is the President of BASCIS (British Association of Spinal Cord Injury Specialists).
